Dreams evolve...
If you came to this website looking for Uluwatu — Hand Made Balinese Lace, it is HERE. If you want Bali fantasy stories about healing, meditation, and harmony, they are available all over the internet.
This website is a little different. It starts with the standard paradise trope, but then progresses through stages of terror.
The scope of the horror is epic, a product of years of scheming and deception. Ultimately you have to wonder: why would anyone do this?
And sadly it is not over yet. Nothing has been solved, no settlement reached, court cases will continue as our sons have legal and moral right to all the family assets seized by their mother.
As an entertainment I wrote a book—Eleven Demons — Secrets of Deincarnation in Bali— about the events leading up to my sons and me fleeing Bali ahead of death threats. And yes, as many people have asked, it was cathartic.
There is a different purpose to this website. Most pages consist of documents collected and presented for court and police cases in Indonesia and California. They back up Eleven Demons and a great deal more.
This is important because some of these pages might save a life. Other people may be on the same path to disaster, as blindly trusting as I was. Robert Ellis is dead because of me, murdered by his wife, Made Jati's friend Noor. Others, like me, have lost a lifetime's work, or have trusted lawyers, police, and courts without realizing their mistake.
Many years of struggling for my children's and my rights gave me some intimacy with Indonesian civil and criminal law. For the sake of others who might find this knowledge helpful, I created the website IndonesianLawAdvisory.
For Made Jati's apologists—Made's Angels as they call themselves—there are indeed "two sides to every story". In this case, one side consists of blatant narcissistic fraud. Look at the documents that Made Jati herself entered to the courts, documents that include signed and notarized letters from the Angels dripping with venom, repeating and swearing to what they knew to be false.
Yet these Angels, most of them, are not bad. It is just that many are bules—the Indonesian term for Westerners—afraid to cross a wealthy Balinese woman with ties to the police, afraid of not being invited to parties (she threw great parties), afraid talk to a bule with legal problems.
Results of my family's struggle are mixed:
- Civil: I eventually won every (almost) every civil case in both Indonesia and California. Made Jati's false marriage documents were cancelled and declared an act contrary to law, the California marriage was ruled valid in Indonesia and California, Made Jati's attorney Ida Bagus Wikantara was disbarred by the Indonesian bar association PERADI for multiple instances of deceiving and manipulating his client Made Jati, and Made Jati was ruled to have abandoned her childen after she, well, abandoned her children.
- Criminal: Not a single police report was ever fully investigated or advanced to prosecution, and my complaints to police oversight and anti-corruption bodies were also all sidetracked. Even with the ruling of the Makhamah Agung – the Indonesian Supreme Court – that Made Jati's actions were 'contrary to law', meaning illegal and criminal, the police refused to move forward.
But there are these exceptions:
-
Assets: Apparently the assets were Made Jati's entire motivation from the start. Every action, every ceremony, every false document, every deceitful witness,
were in support of Made Jati's scheme to seize all family assets. The children—as will become clear from the California and Ellis cases—were
no more than collateral damage.
And so Made Jati did acheive a victory in the final civil case when I appealled for division of family assets, because—despite the legal status of the joint assets being clear—the court did not rule for division, but,
oddly enough, the decision also did not rule against division. It was vague and actually failed to rule, possibly because ruling against division would have been contrary to law. Simply failing to rule was enough to give Made Jati what she was after. She had the assets, and the boys and I were out of Indonesia, so done.
- Wikantara: Indonesian bar associations are chaos. The most reputable bar association, based in Jakarta—PERADI—disbarred Ida Bagus Wikantara. But there are numerous bar associations, even spliter PERADIs, so lawyers who have been disbarred by the top PERADI can always enroll in a different organization. This is what Wikantara did. He is on record saying he was not disbarred. Untrue; he was disbarred for cause. Then he joined another bar.
Before wading into the dramas behind Uluwatu and Kori, let's pause to look ahead...
